Abstract: | Traffic congestion is a very common phenomenon in Hong Kong, especially in shopping district. Drivers always suffer from finding a suitable car park. Existing car park search engines, which only support static information, are not helpful. Other countries, like Japan, web based or mobile phone based car park reservation systems are built to improve the above situation. In Hong Kong, it is still a fantasy of drivers. This project is aimed to construct a car park searching and reservation system to help drivers as well as car park companies. It includes a client mobile program, an application server and a database server. To search car parks, users can submit a query during journey through the mobile phone application. The system provides detail static information and helpful real‐time information, like car park utilization, traffic condition nearby and waiting queue. It also provides car park choices near to the destination. Searching profile is supported to simplify user inputs, users can specify their own preference in the profile. On the other hand, car park companies can offer membership reservation scheme through the system to increase their competitiveness. Through the system, car park companies can alert particular user by sending SMS message. There exists a great opportunity for the cooperation between car park companies and shopping center to establish a smart paymet system, which provides flexible special offer to users. |
