Abstract: This project investigates the fabrication and effect of microfiber loop resonator (MLR). The MLR is first fabricated from micrometer-order diameter fiber biconical tapers (~1um) and then bent locally to form a small diameter self-touching loop. In this project, two types of fibers are used and tested - silicon and polymer fibers. The ways to fabricate microfiber tapers and self-touching loop from different fibers are designed and examined. The effect and difference between these two types of fibers in fabrication of MLR are compared and discussed. The effects on different lengths of fiber taper diameter and self-touching loop diameter in resonant property of MLR are inspected separately in this project. The characteristic of MLR from different type of fibers are studied in this project.
