Abstract: | MPEG Layer III (MP3) music compression format has become an extremely popular for computer audio. Its compact size nature makes it a great choice to be used for storage and disturb music. Recently, there is a great demand for portable MP3 players. ATMEL 89C51SND1C is one of the decoder chips available in the market with the ability to playback Constant Bit Rate (CBR) MP3 file up to 320 Kbps. As it has a built-in 8051core MCU with in-circuit-programming ability, firmware could be developed by standard 8051 C compilers. For generating easy readable code, open source compiler, SDCC is used. In hardware part, Multimedia card is used as flash memory for storing mp3 files. Synchronous Peripheral Interface (SPI) is used to reduce the development complexity. For firmware development, standard FAT16 is used as the method to access the data inside the card. |
