dc.description.abstract | The IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) protocol is a standard for wireless LANs. It is also adopted in multi-hop ad hoc networks. However, previous studies had identified serious problems when the protocol is used in TCP over ad hoc networks. For examples, serious unfairness is found if a 1-hop TCP connection and a 2-hop TCP connection are sharing the medium, and an incompatibility problem occurs if there are two 2-hop TCP connections in the network at the same time [1]. The objective of my project is to study modifications to the MAC protocol in order to avoid those problems, and to evaluate the performance using NS2 simulator. | en_US |
