| Abstract: | Representing knowledge becomes more important in a knowledge-based economy wherein organizations need to create and store the organizational memory in order to sustain their competitive business advantage. Organizational memory comprises experience, know-how, lessons learned, which are recognized as the “knowledge assets” for an organization. To manage the knowledge assets, knowledge should be represented before it can be managed in the Knowledge Management (KM) System. Knowledge Representation is a method for facilitating the capturing, storing, applying and sharing of knowledge. As the amount of knowledge increases rapidly, an effective and efficient knowledge representation approach should be adopted to help management of the organizational memory. Knowledge Representation Models are the standardized methods that represent knowledge in order to facilitate the knowledge applications in our daily life. There are different kinds of Knowledge Representation Models to suit specific occasions. In this study, a model called “Integrated Knowledge Representation (IKR) Model” was developed to represent knowledge with multiple contexts in a single graphical framework. To develop the framework of the IKR Model, a literature survey was conducted to identify the basic principle of knowledge representation and to explore the features of the existing knowledge representation models. The framework of the IKR Model was established and the model language includes relevant syntax and the semantics. The proposed IKR Model had been applied in some real-life case studies in order to collect feedback and comments for model modifications. |
