Abstract: Logistics is known as a fast growing industry in Hong Kong nowadays. In order to handle the complex operations and huge amount of data in today’s logistics management systems, different types of applications have been developed to fulfill the demand. In recent years, rapid developments in GSM technology provide a more reliable and cost effective communication medium. With this beneficial from the new mobile data communication technology, job dispatching and monitoring system for Logistics industry can be developed based on the mobile data communication network. In this project, it aims to investigate a suitable mobile communication medium for the job dispatching and monitoring system. In additional, an expandable and reliable job-dispatching platform is designed and developed for Logistics industry. Moreover, investigate a cost effective mobile device to serve as the mobile terminal for job dispatching is also one of the target in this project. At the end of the project, a reliable, cost effective and flexible job-dispatching platform is designed and implemented. Java Phone is chosen as the tools for job dispatching. GPRS and Internet data link is employed as the secure and reliable communication medium for the job dispatching. The project can be meet the aim and objectives as defined at the analysis stage of the project.
