Mobile phone management system for pocket PC

Abstract

Mobile communication and computer is becoming more and more popular. Most people have at least one mobile phone and computer, and many people starting to use PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) such as Pocket PC. These handheld devices usually provide wireless communication technology like infrared or Bluetooth. With wireless communication, the devices can communicate easily. The phone book, SMS, ringtone, logo, etc can be transferred between mobile phone and computer. There are many advantages to transfer the phone book between mobile phone and computer: 1. Backup phone book. If it was lost, stolen, or when you change another mobile phone or telecom service provider, you can restore it. 2. Synchronize phone book so that you can access it in more ways. For example, you can read it on computer, print it, etc. 3. Most mobile phone has number keys and a few keys only, it is very inconvenient for typing. You can input name, phone number and other information in computer, and then upload it to the mobile phone. Mobile phone manufacturer usually provides software for desktop PC only, and a desktop PC usually does not have wireless devices like infrared or Bluetooth, or cable for mobile phone. But PDA usually equipped with these wireless devices. The aim of this project is to utilize the wireless communication device on PDA to communicate with mobile phone without extra costs or equipments. This project is to develop a Pocket PC application that uses infrared for communication with mobile phone, and it provides the following functions: 1. Upload and download phone book to/from mobile phone. 2. Download SMS from mobile phone. 3. Upload ringtone to mobile phone. 4. Upload logo to mobile phone. 5. Send a phone number for dialing. 6. Export and import phone book to/from file or Pocket Outlook.
