Abstract: | In the age of Information Technology (IT), gold‐mining is a term we can find in nearly all the enterprises. On one hand enterprises want a fast time‐to‐market system to fit the rapid changing business. On the other hand, they want to limit the budget as little as possible. This driven the IT professional trying to use a more reusable, implementation independent, system and platform independent and location independent approach – the Service‐Oriented Architecture (SOA). In order to see how SOA can be applied, a system that we will interact mostly is being chosen to develop based on SOA – the point of sales (POS) system for catering industry. Instead of building the front‐end (POS) system only, back‐end system for the restaurant will also be implemented. In addition, a PDA user interface will also be developed for remote ordering and billing. In order to show if the project is success, an analysis on scalability, interoperability, performance and user experience will be done. Towards the end of the project, I will state what is the future work can be done on this SOA‐based restaurant POS system. In this project, it is expected to solve some problems that exist in existing POS system and able to finish the prototype by applying SOA as the base architecture. |
