Hiking trips planner

Abstract

In recent years, there is a trend for hiking in Hong Kong. Many people will go hiking and camping with their friends in the holiday. Hiking is often thought of a form of recreation and some kind of exercise. Hence it is sometimes taken lightly by inexperienced hikers when in fact it includes a lot of planning to prevent danger and accident. In fact, planning a trip is a difficult task that involves deciding a suitable path, studying maps and searching information about the path etc. This task is particularly difficult for beginners. In order to allow beginners to do an easy planning before the trip, this project have been designed to handle this challenging problem. It can allow users to plan their trip and saves their time on planning, and even shares their experience with others and keeps their trips information as their portfolio. The portfolio is then used to review, remind, reuse and also share with others. Therefore, the hiking planning will become easy and people can enjoy the hiking. With the widespread of Internet, a web which allows people to plan for their trip and sharing their experiences is developed. Throughout the project, different kinds of map data sources have been studied. And map data from Lands Department will be used in this project. Several challenges like transformation and using of map data, studying and implementing path finding algorithms will be overcome. This project would be useful for planning hiking trip, and act as a sharing platform for exchange hiking experience, it could be further enhanced to be using in traveling.
