Abstract: | Shopping and enjoying the dinner in large shopping malls is the most common activities for many Hong Kong people in weekends. It is a relaxing and enjoyable moments for stressed Hong Kong people. However, most of the people feel frustrated when they saw the long waiting queue outside their favorite restaurants. Although many web-based pre-reservation systems are developed, they are not suitable for walk-in customer in Hong Kong. Moreover, most of the table management systems only give convenience to a stand-alone restaurant only, they only provide different functions for restaurant to manage the waiting list effectively without giving offering any services to customers in reservation. Therefore, a mobile multiple restaurant reservation system is needed to serve both the customer and restaurant. By using the proposed system, PDA user can view all the restaurants information in the shopping mall, which can reduce the time wasted on searching the location of each restaurant. Providing the queuing status information can allow customers to know more detail information when selecting the restaurant .In addition, multiple reservations are supported in the system and customer will receive SMS message once the seat is available. Thus, customer can enjoy shopping and at the same time waiting for the seat. Not only customer could benefit, the restaurant does too. With the computerized system, restaurant can estimate the finishing time of each group of customer using the history and record the customer seat-in time. Using the stored information, restaurant could have better table utilization and a fair allocation is thus achieved. Consequently, restaurant and even the shopping mall could benefit from the convenience and good quality of service offered to customers. |
