Abstract: Positioning is an important element in providing location based context aware service. In outdoor environment, we have Global Positioning System (GPS) which provides good accuracy thus far. However, it can not be used in indoor environment. It is a challenge to estimate the position of an object using signal strength in ob- structed indoor environment since the needs of position accuracy is much higher than outdoor positioning. In addition, the signal propagation is a®ected by the multipath, re°ection and refraction in indoor. In this report, we present our K-means Zone Based Method (KMZB). It is a position- ing algorithm for indoor non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment. In addition, an enhanced version called K-means Zone Positioning Method with Reference Points (ZMZBRP) is presented. KMZB provides 2.5 meters resolution while KMZBRP provides less than 2 meters resolution in an indoor environment with multiple rooms.
