Abstract: The aim of this project is to develop a program for the IEEE Ms Pac-Man Competition. The objective of the program is to earn as high a score as possible. A Software Controller consisting of a Detection Part and an Algorithm is developed. A Detection Part constructs a 2D Array Road Map such that the corresponding locations of Ms. Pac-Man and Ghosts are found from captured game images. An Algorithm is invented to make use of the 2D array Road Map and the location of Ms. Pac-Man and Ghosts to decide the direction Ms. Pac-Man should go at each moment. The highest score of this Software Controller is 30870 while the average score and the standard deviation are about 13513 and 6087 respectively. For comparison, the highest score and the highest average score from IEEE WCCI 2008 are 15970 and 11981 respectively. This report describes in details the development of the Detection Part and the Algorithm. Problems found during development are discussed. Finally, ideas on how to improve the Software Controller are reported.
