Abstract: | In mobile cellular system, a key issue is how to reduce the location management cost. Several schemes of location management are compared. It found that traditional scheme (static scheme in GSM) is not good enough as it is not adaptive to individual user behaviour. Thus, an adaptive scheme (Kalman Filter Prediction Scheme) with user motion prediction capability is proposed. Again, it is not good enough as it only performs very good in high speed environment (vehicle speed) while its performance in low speed environment (pedestrian speed) is quite disappointing. To make a compromise, a Combined Scheme which use Kalman Filter Prediction in high speed (vehicle speed) and Distance-based scheme in low speed (pedestrian speed) is proposed. It can be shown that Combined Scheme performs equally well in both environments. |
