Hiking Scheduler

Abstract

Hiking is popular in Hong Kong for both locals and tourists. It is fun and good for health ye. However, it can be dangerous to hikers without considerable planning or adaptive mechanism to exposed risk. Hikers can be distracted by the scenery, feel exhausted and fail to arrive at the destination than expected. Besides, many hikers get lost during bad weather situation.

There are different hiking applications (apps) available for free at the Android App Store (Google Play). However, these apps have common problems which they can't enhance the safety awareness of hikers. They can only provide basic functions from promoting scenery and passive response but not designed from hikers' approach.

The objectives of the project are clear - to provide smart functions from hikers' perspective: 1. To provide a comprehensive planning before the hiking trip, 2. To actively provide progress, forecasts and suggestions based on user's hiking progress, 3. To mitigate their risk during hiking besides enjoying the scenery and the activity, 4. To provide a help function to alert users or their emergency contact in critical situation.

The service itself is running at the background and will automatically provide suggestions and help service actively without users' interference which can't be found in available market apps nowadays.

With the newly designed app, hikers can enjoy the spectacular scenery without worrying too much about their schedule. The app will give smart reminders to users at the right time, at the right location. And it will also provide users' geolocation information to their emergency contact in need.
