Abstract: | Hiking is becoming a popular activity in Hong Kong. People may go hiking in group at weekends. They often find hiking is dangerous when they are lack of environment information. Moreover, the Internet connection and telephone network are often unavailable at the countryside. People would like to have a tool to help them hiking in a safer and happier way. This project aims to develop a Android application, named Hiking-Assistant System, to provide useful functions to the hikers. The system will connect all devices together using Wi-Fi and therefore they can exchange information without going through Internet. By making use of Global Positioning System (GPS), all members' position can be tracked. In addition to GPS, the system provide intelligent location-based services. They provides the weather, issues and hiking groups information near the hikers. At the same time, the system will provide pre-defined hiking paths to users, which provide very detailed information about the path including past hiker's statistics. Based on these information, a fine-tuning on GPS location and the prediction of finishing time becomes possible. In this report, the algorithm on fine-tuning GPS location and predicting finishing time will be examined. The strategies on providing location-based services will also be examined. |
