Abstract: | In recent year, there is a rising trend of riding bike for recreational. However, with the increase number of bike rider, the bike accidents also increase. According to the statistic from Hong Kong Government Transport Department, accident rate grow rapid especially in year 2008(1679 cases), 2009(1882 case), 2010(2027 cases) and 2011(2500 cases). The percentage increased between 2008 and 2011 is 48%. HKSAR Government's Report (ATKINS) founds out that more than 70% cyclist use bike as a recreational tools, many of the are not trained, lacking of bike safety knowledge or having poor riding habits. Most of the bike rider (86%) incurred in the bike related accident when he is still a beginner and only 4.2% professional ride were injured in 2011. For this reason, I decide to make an Android Phone application to raise the awareness bike safety in Hong Kong. I hold an online survey to collect the requirement for the application and the cyclists are responding enthusiastically. The reason for the great responding is that there is lacking of channel for cyclists to learn bike safety in nowadays. Also, there is no phone application that is specially designed for cyclist. The broad aims for this project is to reduce the rate of death and injury of cyclist. To prevent the occurrence of bike accident, education is always the best way. We have a personal assessment system, this assessment system can classify rider into different rank and provide them with different set of information. When the system see the user have improvement, more complex and in-depth knowledge will be provided. The objective of this system is to equip rider with adequate cycling knowledge before they go riding. When they are riding on road, we will monitor the riders' body condition by monitoring the gradient, speed changes and altitude rise. For example, if the rider have continuous riding uphill and we have detected his speed have slow down a lot, we will give warning to him and suggest him to take a break. We want to help user stay away from any dangerous conditions by giving different warning message. Furthermore, every user can contribute to the warning system. When user went to a location which they think it is dangerous, they can add that dangerous location to the online database. Whenever you started a ride, there is possibility of encountering an accident. Our application are able to detect the bike accident. When an accident are detected, the system will automatically send an rescue SMS to Hong Kong Police Force with the details of accident such as time, location and current situation. In completing the project, different technologies like GPS, Web 2.0, MySQL Database, Motion Detection will be examined. The ultimate goal of this project is to provide an inspiration of further development on bike accident detection system, and suggest ways to overcome current limitations. |
