Abstract: | Due to theintegration of distributed system into version control system, form of version control system is enlightened from centralized model to distributed model. Distributed model of version control system brings higher flexibility and less limitation on development process and thus it becomes more popular and widely used in software project development, especially open source projects. The increased flexibilty introduces sevral types of conflicts that cannot be reolved by the system automatically. In result, the works of development become more caused by the confict resolution in manual. As an attempt to keep the high flexibilty of distributed version control system and reduce a specfic conflict occurring frequence that caused by system provided flexible, this project proposed a tool base on eclipse IDE and Git version control system for reducing opportunity of conflict occur during software development. Proposed tool called VCS revision notifiyer accomplish a higher successful rate on applying commit patches and reduce manually conlfict resolution though the locking and conflict resolution via code refactoring. VCS revision notifyier would integrate peer-to-peer method inside in order to keep monitoring conflicts that would be triggered in applied commit and keep checking the status of all source code files to prevent semantic conflicts happened in single file. Developers only need to keep online then it can help to keep the verison is being updated. VCS revision notifyier aims to give a better user experience on using distributed version control system and provide an environment that can lower conflict resolution work. Experiments have shown it rises the commit apply successful rate by 20% over Git version control system. |
