dc.description.abstract | Recently, there was news about how Human Resources personnel selected people from a list of thousands of applicants to participate in job interviews. The news also mentioned that in order to be chosen, the resumes had to be well organized. However, the right people for the jobs may not be able to write good resumes. The Facebook's $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp revealed a story that a co-founder of WhatsApp did not get hired by Twitter and Facebook in 2009 and this interesting story has inspired many people to think about what went wrong. Now there are many websites providing guidelines on how to write a good resume so that the probability of getting selected becomes relatively higher. Essentially what really matters should be the information on the resume that reflects the capabilities of the applicants. However, the manual screening process usually ignores resumes with bad content organization. It is very common yet problematic because the underlying purpose of the screening process is to find the qualified people for the jobs instead of searching for excellent resume designs. Although it is the applicant's responsibility to make a resume impressive, it is the company's loss if the right people are overlooked. Although existing software products provide various types of services to both job seekers and employers such as job alerts, they seem to focus too much on information pushing instead of taking care the interactions between the two parties or providing recruitment support. Being inspired by all the issues mentioned above, this project aims at offering the interactive and integrated solutions to the traditional problems through the introduction of an E-Recruitment System. The system is not just another job site for job listing only but a platform for users to share information and a tool helping companies in selecting the right people from even a large group of candidates. The target users of the system are small companies that cannot afford the high costs of using traditional recruitment systems. | en_US |
