Abstract: Real-time collaborative editing system (RTCE), a system for a group of authors editing the files together at the same time, is becoming popular these days. Because collaborating feature can significantly help improve work efficiency. Most of the RTCE applications uses the cloud to store the most updated file and centralize collaboration activities. However, the security and reliability issues are the main concerns to this model. Regarding this problem, a decentralized model has been proposed such that the file is only being shared with the peers. This final year project will further investigate this approach and develop a distributed real-time collaborative web drawing application called PaintFest, using a wide range of the latest web technologies comprising HTML5, WebSocket and Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC).
