Abstract: | To reach the maximal profit, organizations try their best to utilize their available resources efficiently and effectively. Human resource is one of the valuable resource. That's why an effective staff management system is of the essence in a company. No employers want their employees work late or even did not come back .For some big factories in China with the size < 500 workers, it is hard to make sure that the workers arrived at the right time. Therefore we need to take the attendance. However, the traditional methods we used were not effective and time consuming. In the past, staff taps their staff card and the attendance will be taken. This method is not effective since the staffs took the attendance one by one. Also, it is not reliable because the one who tapped the card may not be the card owner. Employer would like to prevent this case. Thus another method of attendance checking was started with using staff's facial feature to identify their identity. Staff first registered their facial feature into the system, when they were tapping the card, they had to match their facial feature which they registered before. It increased the reliability. Since the card only unique to several facial features, it ensured the one who tapped the card was the card owner. Nevertheless, it still got some drawbacks. Time consuming and low efficiency. Please imagine that if the company/factory got more than 500 staffs and their working hours were the same. Then they had to line up and take the attendance one by one. It was contrary to our original goal. This project will use City University of Hong Kong as an example. Sometimes, there are some seminars for the students to join and attendance checking is needed. The students will act as the staff. The number of the attended students are usually 100-200. An advanced facial recognition system which can detect more than one person at the same time will be developed for this requirement. It increased the efficiency so that students can finish the attendance checking quickly. The students only need to take out their student card when they passed through the entrance, the RFID reader on the door will detect the student card and the information of that student will list on the screen. Then the student looks at the camera for the facial recognition. After a few second, the screen will show that the student was finished the attendance checking successfully with a green color. Furthermore, a user friendly application will be developed for the manager. The application provided a platform for the manager to monitor the student information. For example, they can add new students, edit the existing students, add the new facial feature for the student, etc. Everything about the student can be modified through this application. The main benefit of this project is that the system will increase the efficiency of the student management. |
