dc.description.abstract | The number of cyclist accidents in Hong Kong has been rising over the past few years. According to the research of accident statistics conducted by Transport Department, the number of cyclists involved in accidents increased from 1745 in 2005 to 2395 in 2015.Furthermore, there are about 10 thousand of cyclists violate the rules of cycling every year. The purpose of this project is to design a bicycle training program for teaching cyclists the correct way sand the rules of cycling in Hong Kong with The Hong Kong Police Force. In the program, a bicycle game will be developed and users play the game by connecting their bicycles to PC. In the game, player acts as a cyclist riding on the road and some instructions or rules of cycling which depend on the Laws and Regulations in Hong Kong will be held on the game. In order to make sure the player fully understand the rules of cycling in Hong Kong, a score system is necessary. The player who breaks the rules will suffer mark deductions. The score system is able to reflect on whether the player fully understands the rules of cycling in Hong Kong. The environment or background in the system should be somewhere in Hong Kong since it is necessary to have a good reflection in the game about the situation of the road in Hong Kong in daily life. After several meetings with The Hong Kong Police Force, the target of the game is children, and to educate the children about the law and regulation of cycling in Hong Kong by the game. In this year, I have designed a bicycle game by Unity and also connected the game to the real bicycle kit. There were two versions for the game. Version one is the beta-version which is used for experimental usage such as testing the variables or setting or even textures. In version two, a game is designed. The game included the functions mentions in the purpose. Also, the environment of the game is Tsuen Wan. Cyclists are able to play the game with the real bicycle kits that consists of a bicycle, optical sensor for recording the speed and turning sensor for enabling "Turn" function by Hall-effect. With the invitations by The Hong Kong Police Force, I was invited to participate several events about safe cycling campaign. In the event, I was responsible to make a bicycle game for children and they learned the rules of cycling by playing the game. The place of the last event I joined is Tsuen Wan and that is the reason for the choice of game environment. At the end of the game, the score for the play was record and a certificate was given to him. After the participation of the project, I am able to build a game by using Unity which enhances my knowledge about computing programming. However, the graphic of the game could be more detailed and realistic. VR function is good suggestion for better gaming experiments. In this report, the detail of the game will be discussed. The code of the game will not be included in the report by the decision of supervisors. It is suggested to contact Dr KT NG and Andy Chan for further details about coding. | en_US |
