Abstract: | At present, the visually impaired (VIP) plays chess game using a special board and special chess pieces. This project shall explore innovative ways to present the chess board positions so that chess can be played more easily and more enjoyably by the VIP. Two iOS chess games, Tic-Tac-Toc and Dou Shou Qi are developed with accessibility. With the help of VoiceOver, which is a gesture-based screen reader integrated in iOS, VIP can know what is happening on the chess board, and play with user-friendly control. Besides, localization is also important that VoiceOver should read out the content using the language with which user is familiar, so that the user can understand what is going on. This project also demonstrates how to add accessibility to an app (Tic-Tac-Toc) developed with storyboards and an app (Dou Shou Qi) developed with custom code respectively. Throughout the project, knowledge of developing accessible apps shall be learnt. This project shall arouse people to develop apps with accessibility, and provide mobile entertainment for the VIP. |
