Abstract: | With mounting amount of usage of electronic products in different fields, reliability engineering has been regarded as an effective means which is conducive to measuring the performance of these products in extreme conditions. In order to improve and provide better products, different companies are trying to produce highly reliable products with the lowest production and maintenance costs possible. This project aims to analyse the reliability of Xiaomi Band 2, the best-seller of Xiaomi, a leading company in selling cheap and affordable smart devices. The watch band is built with heart rate detection, walking distance recording and phone Bluetooth connection. This paper would like to investigate on whether Xiaomi Band 2 acts good in terms of reliability and design under extreme conditions. Thus, a multitude of experimental verifications were carried out using Xiaomi Band 2 to evaluate the impacts caused by factors like temperature and humidity. With different testing conducted, such as hot and cold test, humidity test, stress test and thermal shock test, it was found that 125 ℃ was the cut-off temperature for Xiaomi Band 2. Surprisingly, the watch could tolerate extreme low temperature such as -70 ℃ for more than 500 hours. On the other hand, humidity is the most important factor in running the device. Also, investigations had been conducted on different components of the watch including battery and monitor, the analysis of which will be presented in this report. Overall, it was found that the band can tolerate most of the extreme situations and still remains in a good condition, which is far better than the suggested conditions provided by the supplier Xiaomi. |
