dc.description.abstract | In these years, the smartphone has become so popular all over the world due to its convenience. However, using too much smartphones may cause eye strain or even eye diseases. It is necessary to be aware of overusing the smartphones. SightKeeper is an android app preventing children/youths to use smartphones for a long duration without any rest. Also, it aims to build up good habits of using smartphones. This app guides the users to use smartphone with three functions: 1) SightKeeper provides background timer and pop-up lock to notice the users to take a rest. We suggest the users to follow the 20-20-20 rule. 20-20-20 rule means to take a 20 seconds rest by looking at something 20 feet far away for every 20 minutes of digital devices usage. 2) As the children/youths may not be able to behave themselves well, this app is able to notice specific phone (for example their parents) when they did not follow the rules. 3) It also records some of the mobile phone usage as a report page. The users and parents will be able to check the performance. We suggest the parents to give their children some rewards if the children can follow the rules for a period of time. Other than the functions above, SightKeeper also provides functions like password, anti-cheating, locking details modification etc. Hopefully it will be able to help the children to build up a good habit in order to protect their eyes. | en_US |
