Abstract: | Most of the hongkongers are busy at work and have no time to take good care of their parents. Therefore, some of them chose to send their parents to the elderly home and receive better care. With the serious ageing problem and the increasing demand in elderly home in Hong Kong, the number of elderly home increases significantly these days. However, the elderly abuse and neglect care cases also have an increasing trend and some of them are reported happening in the elderly home. Moreover, it is found that the staff of the elderly home is facing a server shortage of labor. Most of the staff have to overtime working and they are underpaid. It is a vicious circle resulting in losing more staff and poor elderly care. Regarding to the labor shortage and poor elderly caring problem, this project aims to develop a real-time elderly monitoring system. The front-end system has three applications which are wearable application, mobile application and web-based portal. Each of them has their own group of users. The elderly will be the user of wearable and it is also the main data source of the system. Mobile application will be used by family members and this allow them to track the elderly conditions remotely. The last component of the system, web-based portal, is for the staff of the elderly home and they can manage the elderly better under the limit labor. The real-time system provides a smart and convenient way to monitor the elderly. Family members and the staff of the elderly home can also benefit from this project. |
