Abstract: | One of the major concerns in the wireless network is energy consumption. Spending more energy implies a higher cost. Since there are different internet traffic demands at different times. During the nighttime, when fewer users are using the network, the base station can be turned into sleep mode to save energy. While turning the base stations into sleep mode may affect the Quality of Service (QoS) to the user. The tradeoff has to be made to balance the energy consumption and QoS. This project aims to find the best base station sleeping pattern that can minimize energy consumption while maintaining a sufficient service to the user. In this project, I first work on network simulation. Markov chain simulation will be used to simulate the network and obtain the blocking probability with dropping probability for evaluating the QoS. Then, move on to study the power consumption formula of the base station. Different on/off patterns are then designed. These patterns are then put into the Markov chain simulation to obtain the corresponding QoS. Afterward, the power consumption of the corresponding on/off patterns is also calculated. Finally, by using the Pareto front, we may find out the optimal solution in these designs. |
