Abstract: A 60-GHz 4×4 dense dielectric patch antenna array is investigated and designed. Experimental results shows that an impedance bandwidth of 23.7% from 51.3 to 65.1 GHz for |S11| < -10 dB, an average gain of 15.7 dBi, and symmetrical broadside radiation patterns with -15 to -20 dB cross-polarizations are achieved. Comparing with a fabricated conventional metallic patch antenna array, the dense dielectric patch antenna array has a wider impedance and gain bandwidths. Besides, the average gain of the dense dielectric patch antenna array is almost same as the counterpart of the metallic patch antenna array.
